How to Choose a Safe Home Massage Service in Mumbai

A practical 7-question checklist when you can't rely on Google reviews alone

Mami · May 2026

Most women in Mumbai have at least one story about a home massage gone wrong — a male therapist who shouldn't have been sent, a service that asked for advance payment and never showed, a 'spa' that turned out to be something else. Here's how to choose without relying only on Google reviews.

Question 1: Is it women-only?

If the service takes male customers, the therapist screening is structurally different. Women-only services build their entire hiring and conduct policy around one customer profile — yours. Ask explicitly: 'Do you take bookings from men?' Any hesitation is a no-go.

Question 2: Who is the owner — by name?

Anonymous brands ('Mumbai Home Spa', 'Premium Wellness Mumbai') are harder to hold accountable. Look for a service where the founder's name is public, her background is verifiable, and she answers WhatsApp herself. Mami runs Ima Wellness, has 10 years of practising therapist experience, and answers every message personally.

Question 3: Can you pay after the service?

Advance-payment requirements are the #1 red flag. Reputable services collect on UPI after the therapist leaves. If they ask for advance payment for a first session, walk away.

Question 4: Is the price listed, or do they say 'it depends'?

Listed prices on a website you can return to = transparent business. 'It depends, message us for a quote' = opportunity for discrimination, price padding, or last-minute surprises.

Question 5: Is the same therapist available repeatedly?

Gig-worker services rotate whoever is free that day. Real businesses have a small team you can request by name. Repeat therapists know your preferences and the trust compounds.

Question 6: What's the cancellation policy — and is it written down?

A published cancellation policy (e.g. 4-hour notice for free reschedule) means the business has thought through edge cases. Verbal-only policies are fertile ground for disputes.

Question 7: What's the recourse if something goes wrong?

Ask: 'If I'm not happy with the session, what happens?' A real business will tell you the exact recourse (Ima offers a complimentary session credit, verified by Mami). Vague answers ('we'll see') mean you have no recourse.
